3,709. Dung Heaps in a Field
Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 2:2
If someone wants to make dung heaps throughout his field, three in each beis seah (an area of about 690 square yards), he may do so. If he wants to combine his manure into one large dung heap, he is so permitted.
Hilchos Shemittah v’Yoveil 2:3
If one puts manure on a rock, if he digs out three handbreadths (about 9”) of soil and makes a dung heap, or if he builds a platform three handbreadths above the ground and puts the manure there, there are no size restrictions. Even if one made multiple such dung heaps in a beis seah, it is permitted. This is because it’s obvious that he doesn’t intend to fertilize his land, he’s simply gathering his manure together.
