3,646. Consecrating and Redeeming Dough Before and After Rolling

Hilchos Bikkurim 8:6

If dough from secular flour gets mixed with terumah flour before it’s rolled, challah need not be taken; if after it’s been rolled, then challah must be taken. Similarly, if one consecrates dough or declares it hefker (ownerless) before it’s rolled, and then he redeems it or takes ownership of it and rolls it, or if he consecrates it or declares it hefker after it’s been rolled and then he redeems it or takes ownership of it, challah must be taken.

Hilchos Bikkurim 8:7

Let’s say that someone consecrates dough before rolling it and it was rolled while in the possession of the Temple. If he subsequently redeems it, challah need not be taken. This is because the dough was exempt from challah when the obligation would have kicked in.
