1,179. The Promissory Note

179:10 If someone was holding a promissory note for money he lent to another person and the note became worn and in danger of becoming illegible, he should go to the beis din and they will write him a supporting document.

179:11 Once a debt has been paid, the lender may no longer keep the promissory note in his house. This is what is meant by Job 11:14, "Do not let not iniquity dwell in your tents."
