#184: The Havdalah Candle (Part 4)
- One may recite the berachah on fire only on a fire that was kindled specifically to give light. Therefore, a yahrtzeit candle or a flame ignited for cooking should not be used. (Shulchan Aruch 298:7-12).
- The procedure for looking at one’s fingernails is as follows: One bends the fingers of the right hand into the palm of the hand. One then looks at the nails, the surrounding skin, and at the palm of the hand. Then one extends one hand and gazes at the nails again. Some repeat the procedure with the left hand as well (Rema, O.C. 298:3; Mishnah Berurah 298:11; “The Radiance of Shabbos, p.139).
