3,557. When One Needs to Use His Second Tithe Money
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 8:11
If one had second tithe money in Jerusalem and produce outside of Jerusalem, he may transfer the sanctity of the money to that produce; the money is rendered secular and the produce must be brought to and eaten in Jerusalem. This is because the money and the produce need not be in the same place when transferring sanctity from one to the other.
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 8:12
If someone has second tithe money in Jerusalem and he needs to use it, and his friend has secular produce that he wants to eat, he should transfer the sanctity of his money to his friend’s produce. In this way, the produce has been purchased using second tithe money. The friend then eats the produce in ritual purity. In this way, he loses nothing and the money is rendered secular.
