3,551. Eating Second Tithe as Secular Food
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 7:19
If someone consecrates second tithe money to buy a peace offering, it’s not consecrated because the sanctity of a peace offering can’t be added to the second tithe sanctity. This is because second tithe belongs to God. It should go without saying that this is certainly the case if one consecrates actual second tithe produce to buy a peace offering.
Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 7:20
Let’s say that someone took food that was dedicated as second tithe and he ate it in the manner of secular produce, either intentionally or unintentionally. If he did so using the actual second tithe produce, he has no recourse other than to seek forgiveness from God. If he did so using second tithe funds, the money must be returned to him so that he can bring it to Jerusalem and eat from it there. If the money can’t be returned, he must buy an equivalent value of food and eat it in Jerusalem.
