3,549. Buying Food Outside of Jerusalem

Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 7:15

If someone accidentally buys produce using second tithe money outside of Jerusalem, the seller must return the money to the buyer and the funds are considered second tithe as they were before. If one intentionally makes such a purchase, what he bought must be brought to and eaten in Jerusalem. When there’s no Temple, such produce must be left to rot.

Hilchos Maaser Sheini and Neta Revai 7:16

Similar to the case in the previous halacha, a domesticated animal may not be bought using second tithe funds outside of Jerusalem. If one made such a purchase inadvertently, the money must be returned to the buyer. If he made the purchase intentionally, it must be brought to Jerusalem and eaten there. When there’s no Temple, after the animal dies, both it and its hide must be buried (i.e., the buyer may not benefit from them).
