#144: Reciting Retzeh in Seudah Shelishit
- One who forgets to recite Retzeh in Birkat Hamazon at Seudah Shelsihit does not need to repeat Birkat Hamazon. As discussed in earlier posts, one is not obligated to eat bread at Seudah Shelishit if one is not hungry, unlike the first two Shabbat meals. Therefore, the obligation to recite Retzeh at this meal is of a lower level (Shulchan Aruch 188:8; Mishnah Berurah 188:31).
- If one remembers that Retzeh was omitted before beginning the final berachah, the replacement berachah is recited even at Seudah Shelishit (Mishnah Berurah 188:31). However, if one recites Birkat Hamazon after nightfall, some poskim maintain that Hashem’s Name should not be recited in the replacement berachah (Bi’ur Halacha).
