#109: Lechem Mishneh (Part 2)
- It customary to cut the bottom loaf on Shabbat night for Kabbalistic reasons (Rama 274:1), though some recommend cutting the top one (Bach).
- To avoid passing over the top challah (which violates the principle not to “pass over” mitzvot), one should pull the bottom challah a little closer when reciting the berachah. At the day meal, all agree that one cuts the top loaf (Rema, Mishnah Berurah, and other commentaries to siman 274).
