#52: Candles That Were Extinguished After Lighting
- If the Shabbat candles were lit and then blew out for any reason before sunset, they should be lit again so that the mitzvah of oneg/kavod Shabbat can be fulfilled properly. However, one should not light it herself if she has already accepted Shabbat. Rather, she should ask another household member, anyone else who has not yet accepted Shabbat, or a non-Jew to light for her, if those are options (Shemirat Shabbat K'hilchata 43:17, 37).
- One who relights Shabbat candles again after they were blown out does not recite a berachah when doing so if a berachah was recited when lighting them initially (ibid.).
