#24: Machshavah

The sefer Sidduro shel Shabbat (Shoresh 2) writes that lighting Shabbat candles helps to remove controversy and promote a feeling of calm and tranquility in the home: “Through their light, they illuminate the home with the light of joy and the excitement of Shabbat, as well as bring tranquility and quiet to our homes, and remove quarrels and the fire of controversy…”

When we light candles each week, we should try to resolve any fighting or controversy in our homes beforehand. In this merit, we can hopefully receive the special beracha of the candles to provide joy and tranquility in our homes.
