1,102. Nails, Jewelry
161:8 There are a variety of issues when it comes to dirt under the nails. The accepted practice is therefore to cut the nails of the hands and feet before immersion in the mikvah, taking care to dispose of them properly. If the woman forgot to cut her nails before Shabbos or yom tov, some authorities allow her to have them cut by a non-Jew. If she has a swelling on the place of her nails that keeps her from being able to cut them or clean under them, if the swelling is to such an extent that the dirt can't be seen, it is not a chatzitzah (interposition). If a woman forgot to cut her nails and immersed that way, if she remembered before being intimate with her husband, she must immerse again. If she remembered after they were intimate, she should ask a Torah authority.
161:9 A woman must be careful to remove her earrings and rings before she immerses in the mikvah.
