3,229. Trees Half in Israel
Terumos 1:24
If a tree stands outside of Israel and its branches reach into Israel, or if it stands in Israel and its branches reach outside of Israel, the nature of the tree is determined by the location of its roots. If some of its roots are in Israel and others are outside of Israel, its fruit is considered a mixture of regular produce and untithed produce (chullin and tevel). This is true even if the roots on either side are separated by arid rock.
Terumos 1:25
Let’s say that a plant in a perforated flowerpot has not grown roots through the hole. If the hole is in Israel and the plant’s branches extend outside of Israel, the nature of the plant is determined by the location of its branches.
