3,207. What to Do With Surplus Funds
Hilchos Matnos Aniyim 9:18
Let’s say that funds were collected for a particular person and what was collected exceeds what he needs. In such a case, the surplus funds go to the person for whom they were collected. Surplus funds for the needy are given to the needy; surplus funds for redeeming captives are used to redeem captives. If surplus funds were raised to redeem a particular captive, they are given to that captive. Surplus funds for burying the dead are used to bury the dead; surplus funds raised to bury a particular person are given to his heirs.
Hilchos Matnos Aniyim 9:19
If a needy person donates a perutah (a small denomination of coin) to the tamchui or the kupah, it is accepted; if he doesn’t donate, we don’t require him to do so. If he was given new clothes and he donated his old clothes, they are accepted; if he doesn’t donate them, we don’t require him to do so.
