2,973. A Year and Change Until Yoveil
Hilchos Arachin Vacharamin 4:8
If there’s a year and some months until yoveil and the Temple treasurer wants to count the months as a year so that one can pay two shekel and two pundiyon for every chomer that can be planted, that’s allowed. This is because we don’t count individual months when it comes to consecrated property, as per the aforementioned Leviticus 27:18: “According to the years that remain.” We infer that we calculate years for this purpose, but not months.
Hilchos Arachin Vacharamin 4:9
Based on the previous halacha, it is therefore inappropriate to consecrate a field less than two years before yoveil. If one does so, it is effectively consecrated and it can’t be redeemed for a pro-rated price. Rather, one who wants to redeem it must pay 50 shekel for each chomer that can be planted in it. If he’s not willing to do so, the field is given to the kohanim in yoveil, as we will see.
