2,961. One Who Owns Less Than a Sela

Hilchos Arachin Vacharamin 3:4

If someone doesn’t have even a sela, an amount less than a sela isn’t taken from him. Rather, the entire financial obligation is counted to him as a debt. If he acquires property and becomes well-off, then he must pay the full valuation required by the Torah.

Hilchos Arachin Vacharamin 3:5

If someone wealthy became poor, or if a poor person committed to a valuation and became rich, he must pay the full valuation. However, if he committed a valuation while needy, got rich and then became needy again, he then may pay the valuation required of a needy person.
