2,771. Benefit Leading to Food

Hilchos Nedarim 6:1

If one person tells another, “Benefit leading to your food is prohibited to me,” or “Benefit leading to my food is prohibited to you,” then the one who is prohibited may not borrow a sifter, a strainer, a hand mill, an oven or any other food-preparation device from the other person; he may still borrow bracelets, rings and other things not used to prepare food. He may not borrow a sack or a donkey to carry produce.

Hilchos Nedarim 6:2

In a place where utensils are only rented, one may not borrow even utensils that aren’t used to prepare food. If they were in a place where they don’t charge and he borrowed utensils that aren’t used to prepare food in order to make a good impression on others and thereby benefit, or if he wanted to cross the other person’s property to get to a place where he would benefit, it is prohibited out of doubt. Accordingly, if he violates and does these things, he isn’t liable to the penalty of lashes.
