Balak - R'vi'i

Okay, Balaam, Let’s See What You Got!

Balaam and Balak went to their first stop and offered some sacrifices. In the morning, they ascended to a place from where they could see the camp of Israel. Balaam directed that seven altars be built and that a bull and a ram be offered on each. After this was done, Balaam told Balak that he would seek a vision from G-d.

G-d appeared to Balaam and gave him the message that Balaam conveyed to Balak. It was: "Balak, king of Moav, you brought me here to curse the Jews, but how can I do so if G-d's not angry with them? They are a unique nation, dwelling in peace. They are blessed to be prolific. I hope that my own end is as good as theirs!"

Balak wasn't too pleased with this. "Okay, I understand that you may not be able to curse them, but you don't have to bless them!"

"Remember, I can only say what G-d tells me to!"
