About this author

Rabbi Neil N. Winkler, founding rabbi of the Young Israel of Fort Lee, NJ, served as spiritual leader of that community for almost thirty-seven years. During that same period, Rabbi Winkler served as the chair of Tanach studies in Yeshivat Moriah of Englewood, NJ, where he also coached over 30 national- or future-national champions of the International Bible Contest. Since making aliya with his wife in 2014, he continued to coach high school students for the competition and has taught three American champions, all of whom were international finalists who competed onstage on Yom HaAtzma’ut.

Since his aliya, Rabbi Winkler has been offering Jewish History classes and a daf hayomi shiur in the Israel Center, as well as contributing a weekly column in the Torah Tidbits publication of the OU. Rabbi Winkler is also the author of “Bringing the Prophets to Life,” an overview of the books of the Early Prophets, published in 2011.

Rabbi Winkler graduated from Yeshiva University in 1969 with a BA in history and was ordained by RIETS with a Master’s degree in Biblical studies in 1972. A founder and past president of the Rabbinical Council of Bergen County, Rabbi Winkler also served on the executive board of the Rabbinical Council of America and is included as part of the speaker’s bureau of the National Council of Young Israel.
